With a two-wicket victory in the third and final ODI at Harrup Park in Mackay on Sunday, India Women ended Australia Women’s record 26-match unbeaten streak. India Women beat the 265-run mark with three balls to spare, making it their most successful run-chase in ODIs. Australia, which had not lost an ODI match since 2017, won the series 2-1 after winning the first two matches. The focus now shifts to the one-off pink ball Test between the two sides, which begins on September 30 at the Carrara Oval in Queensland.

India will be confident going into the Test after ending the longest winning streak in ODIs (both men’s and women’s).

India lost the second One-Day International by the tiniest of margins, after dominating for the whole of the match.

The Indian women’s team, on the other hand, could not be denied this time as the batters came to play, contributing significantly throughout the innings to stop the Australian onslaught.

The chase was led by Shafali Verma (56 off 91 balls) and Yastika Bhatia (64 off 69 balls).

Deepti Sharma (31 off 30 balls) and Sneh Rana (30 off 27 balls) also contributed to India’s greatest run-chase in women’s ODI cricket history, which also occurred to be the second highest run-chase by any team against Australia.

With a lofted shot straight down the ground for a boundary, veteran Jhulan Goswami put the final touches on India’s memorable victory.

Earlier in the day, after winning the toss and deciding to bat, Australia found themselves in trouble after being reduced to 87 for four.

Beth Mooney, the star of Australia’s thrilling last-ball win in the second ODI, came to the rescue once more for her squad, striking a 64-ball 52 to help her team get back on track.

With the bat, Ashleigh Gardner (67 off 62) and Tahlia McGrath (47 off 32) rescued the Aussies and helped the hosts reach a total of 264 for nine in 50 overs.

Jhulan Goswami was the best of the Indian bowlers, taking three wickets for 37 runs in nine overs. Pooja Vastrakar also grabbed three wickets for 46 runs in nine overs.

With Smriti Mandhana (22) and Shafali contributing 59 runs for the first wicket, India got off to a flying start.

After that, Shafali and Yastika put on a 101-run partnership for the second wicket to put India in command.

Australia, on the other hand, pushed back, quickly dismissing Shafali, Richa Ghosh, and Yastika.

Vastrakar didn’t last long, while skipper Mithali Raj could only manage 16 out of 28 before being sent packing as well.

Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana delivered match-winning cameos to put India on the verge of victory just when it appeared the Australians would pull off yet another unexpected win. Goswami hit a four in the final over to give India a stunning victory on Australian soil.
