On Friday, filmmaker Karan Johar announced that filming on his forthcoming directorial effort Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, has begun.
Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi appear in the love romance, which marks Johar’s comeback to film director following the 2016 romantic drama Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
The film, written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan, and Sumit Roy, was unveiled by the 49-year-old filmmaker last month. Johar released a brief video on social media showing Bhatt and Singh, as well as other crew members, on the set of the film, expressing his enthusiasm to begin filming.
“The day is finally here & I have so many feelings going on in my head but what emerges at the top is – gratitude! As we begin our kahani ka first schedule, seeking all your pyaar & aashirvaad! It’s time to roll! #RockyAurRaniKiPremKahani #RRKPK, the filmmaker wrote in the caption on Instagram.
Johar first worked with Bhatt as a producer on his 2012 film Student of the Year, and went on to produce 2 States, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Dear Zindagi, Raazi, and Kalank.
Johar and Singh will work together for the first time on the upcoming film. They were scheduled to collaborate on Takht, a historical drama that has allegedly been cancelled.
Dharmendra and Azmi will be collaborating with Johar for the first time, despite Bachchan’s renowned role in the filmmaker’s 2001 hit Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham….
In 2022, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani will be launched.
