Billy Porter, a Hollywood actor, is scheduled to star in an LGBT adolescent comedy film for Amazon Studios.
The film is tentatively named To Be Real and is produced by Gabrielle Union’s I’ll Have Another Productions, which has a partnership with Amazon Studios.
Porter will direct To Be Real from an original story by Ryan Shiraki, who will make his directorial debut soon with Orion Pictures’ What If.
The film has been compared as a mix between LGBTQ Superbad and Booksmart.
It follows three gay friends as they go to New York City for Pride Weekend, where they find that life on the other side of the rainbow is an outrageous, raunchy, frequently contentious, but ultimately furious non-stop celebration.
To Be Real will be produced by Union, with Kian Gass of I’ll Have Another serving as executive producer with Porter and Shiraki.
Last month, Porter began filming What If? in Pittsburgh. The film follows a trans high school senior as she navigates an unexpected romance in a modern coming-of-age narrative.
The actor, who earned an Emmy for his work in Pose, will next be seen in Cinderella, a musical film that will be released on Amazon Prime Video on September 3rd.
